Ford Capri: The Ford Capri Photo Gallery 1989-1992

1989-91 | 1992 February | March | April | May | July | August | September | October

This gallery comprises of all the photos I took of the humble Ford Capri with several of the ealier photos already appearing on my website, under the FordCapri/Modified/Custom/Drag Race headings. Some of the images will be the Capris I owned at the time, but this gallery is mainly a record of Capris I saw that caught my attention at car shows and club meetings. I have meticulously scanned my photo albums in chronological order and I have listd dates and places of the images as per the references made at the time in my photo albums. All these images are stored on Photobucket due to limited space on my webserver.

1989 - 1991 Ford Capri Gallery

1989 to 1991

This first group is from the period 1989 to end of 1991 as there are not many photos of Ford Capris other than my MKII. The early pictures are from January 1989 when I first acquired the the 1975 MKII 1600 XL then had new 7J x13 wheels and 205/60s tyres fitted in the March. In April a four day tour of the Lake District ensued, followed by my first Capri Club Branch meeting at the High Post Inn near Salisbury.

My Cars

This is where I transitioned from the MkII 1600 XL to a MKIII 2.0 GL due to the crash. As for the crashed Capri, that happened outside the Round Oak pub (now closed) at Padworth Common going towards Aldermarston from Burghfield at 11pm. I hit a Ford P100 pick up truck square on in the side, decelerating to about 40mph at the tme of impact. Pictures were taken at Whitchurch, Hampshire behind the shops where the crashed Capri was stored for a while.

Capri Club International Convention at Stoneleigh, near Coventry.

Early in the month I visited Dorest and Swindon Capri Club Branches on their Sunday meets. I had already joined the Hampshire Capri in February, early enough that I got talked in to leading the club convoy of about 10 cars all the way from Chievely Services (A34/M4) near Newbury as my first excursion with them. Other Capris joined the convoy which I believe reached upto about 15 cars going the along the A34 and M40 etc. all the way to Stoneleigh.

Hampshire Capri Club - Apr 1992 at the Harvester, Basinstoke.

The club was started by Paul Erp and Ray Turner sometime in 1991 and meetings would occur monthly on Sundays at the Harvester pub at Basingstoke. While Paul left in 1994, Ray continued with it and it still is ticking over to this day, as can be seen on their updated website.

Fontwell Park Classic Car Show - Jul 1992 near Chichester.

The garage is in Lower Hale near Farnham on the B3007 after meeting up at a layby earlier for our convoy to Fontwell Park. Sneaked in at the end is the work being done on the 2.0 GL in Coomb Bissett by my friend. A 2" lowering job and a recon short block being fitted.

Ford Fair at Stanford Hall, near Lutterworth, Leics - Aug 1992.

The Hampshire Capri Club attended this show as a group (free tickets) and the 2.0GL debuted its new lower look.

World Finals, Santa Pod - Sep 1992.

This was my first visit to Santa Pod the mecca of European Drag Racing. Entry was free upon submission of a News of the World newspaper, to say it was busy was an understatement.

CCI CapriMania! Stoneleigh, near Coventry - Dec 1992.

Run by Capri Club International this was my second visit to this show, but I took my camera this time. It was a show for all the personalised, modified and customised capris. Tacked on the end is the 2.0GL then looking a bit tired after 8 months of 100 mile a day commutes to work.
